Successes of Northern Ireland's Screen Tourism

Screen tourism is a growing trend and has the potential to create stand out for Northern Ireland in the international marketplace. Northern Ireland is increasingly being used as a location for international TV and film productions. It has excellent studio facilities and increasingly offers a very talented workforce both in front of and behind the cameras. Importantly it offers unspoilt beauty, unique landscapes and urban scenes in a very compact destination.

Screen tourism provides the opportunity to:

  • Capitalise on international brand associations and convert international attention into travel bookings
  • Achieve positive national and international PR coverage and connect with new consumers
  • Create innovative and new visitor experiences which resonate with audiences in key markets

Over the past 10 years Northern Ireland Screen has developed the screen industries and secured many productions including Game of Thrones®, Dracula Untold, The Fall, Robot Overlords, Miss Julie, ITV’s Frankenstein Chronicles and BAFTA awarded and Oscar nominated Boogaloo and Graham. Most recent productions include Morgan, Lost City of Z, The Survivalist, A Patch of Fog, High Rise, Can't Touch This and The Secret. These productions have helped to showcase the beauty and natural landscape Northern Ireland has to offer to a worldwide audience and has created opportunities for the tourism industry to develop exciting and engaging tourism experiences built around the locations used for filming.
