Tourism Northern Ireland offered support via the Tourism Event Funding Programme 2017/18 to a total of 44 Sponsorship Events and 12 International Events.

These events have clearly demonstrated how they will meet the objectives of the programme; enhance the visitor experience while here in Northern Ireland, strive to increase visitor numbers and spend, ensure year-round motivators to encourage visitors as well as developing a positive international profile and enhance the appeal and profile of the area.  

With six months into the funding term Tourism NI have supported to date 10 international events and 32 national sponsored events.

The International Tourism Events Fund supports events that generate substantial economic benefit for Northern Ireland through increased visitation including visitors and participants and highlight Northern Ireland as an events and tourism destination through high profile international media coverage. Through the international fund 10 events have been supported to date across Northern Ireland including Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, North West 200, Giro Gran Fondo, Belfast Titanic Maritime Festival 2017, SuperCup NI, August Feile, Ulster Grand Prix, NI Open and BBC Proms. The Belfast International Arts Festival is currently underway in Belfast from 9 October 2017- 1 November 2017. Future international events include the Belfast Basket Ball Invitational and Home of Saint Patrick Festival.

The National Tourism Events Sponsorship Scheme aims to enhance the visitor experience, generating economic benefit for Northern Ireland whilst highlight the best of what Northern Ireland has to offer. With six months of events complete Tourism NI have supported 32 events including Balmoral Show, Irish Game Fair, Hughes Insurance Foyle Cup, Open House Festival and Belfast Mela.

As we look forward to the final months of 2017/18 there are still a number of events to take place to continue to drive visitor numbers, economic spend and profile of Northern Ireland through the events offering.
