Tourism NI, the organisation responsible for the development of tourism and the marketing of Northern Ireland as a tourist destination, is hosting a series of video guides to help local tourism businesses grab the digital mind-set.
In association with Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Southern Regional College the series of video guides will feature a panel of leading digital industry experts with the aim of developing the digital capabilities of tourism businesses in the local area.
John McGrillen, Chief Executive Tourism NI commented; “Tourism continues to be one of the most important sectors for the economy and employment, yet there is potential for more growth. As the space in which technology, travel and tourism is growing rapidly, so too must our digital strategy to best compete in the international tourism marketplace.
“Each of the upcoming video guides will feature a peer best practice case study followed by a panel discussion with digital and social media experts who will assist local business owners with challenges they are facing with their digital strategy. I would urge everyone involved in tourism to embrace the digital mind-set and if appropriate to seriously engage with these guides to help meet the demands of the increasingly tech-savvy international and domestic travellers.”
Liam Hanaway, Chief Executive of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council said: “This is a very exciting time for the tourism industry in the Newry, Mourne and Down region with the launch of our new Tourism Strategy. This initiative aims to help tourism businesses understand the digital environment and to reach potential global visitors through their marketing activities. Together, by developing our digital capabilities and knowledge, we can help to raise the awareness of our tourism offering and to grow our tourism economy in line with our vision for the industry over the next five years.”
Brian Doran, Chief Executive of Southern Regional College commented: ‘I am delighted that the Southern Regional College is working in partnership with the local Council and Tourism NI to progress this innovative initiative. We are able to achieve more by working together in a structured and coherent way and I look forward to the College’s business support unit i3 playing its part in helping local companies to innovate and grow through the integrated use of digital technologies within our tourism product.”
The first video guide will be available on Friday 10th March via the Tourism NI YouTube channel:
