Economy Minister Simon Hamilton MLA has attended the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2017 Pool Draw held at Belfast City Hall.
The Pool Draw will determine the tournaments match schedule with both semi-finals and final being held at Queen’s University and The Kingspan Stadium.
Speaking at the draw, the Minister said: “The Women’s Rugby World Cup Pool Draw is the perfect opportunity to underline Northern Ireland’s commitment to delivering world class events. This tournament has the capacity to generate at least £1.8 million for the local economy across the nine-day period, attracting over 23,500 spectators and visitors.
“Next year will be our busiest sporting year to date, with the Gran Fondo Giro D’Italia, Irish Open, Women’s Rugby World Cup and the UEFA Women’s Under 19 Championships all taking place. Following this we have the Open in 2019 coupled with the bid for the Rugby World Cup 2023 passing the Applicant Phase, Northern Ireland is certainly shaping up as a great place for visiting spectators and local sporting fans alike.”
