Cloonavin goes red for Chinese visitor campaign

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s civic headquarters will be illuminated in red this weekend. The ‘Bridge of Light’ initiative is part of the 2018 China-EU Tourism Year - a year-long campaign to build awareness of the growing importance of the Chinese visitor market.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Joan Baird OBE said: “Lighting up our civic building in this way is a symbolic goodwill gesture which signifies our desire to further develop strong links with Chinese visitors. By participating in the ‘bridge of light’ we are helping to showcase the Causeway Coast and Glens as a tourist destination. Earlier this month a number of our tourism businesses took part in the highly sought after ‘China Ready’ training which reflects our commitment to providing the best possible visitor experience. We already welcome a large number of Chinese visitors to the area every year and we are keen to build on this encouraging trend.”
Destination Manager Kerrie McGonigle said: “The introduction of direct flights between Dublin and Hong Kong later this year represents a huge opportunity for us to further capitalise on the Chinese market. The Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre already has the highest number of Chinese visitors on the island of Ireland so we are looking forward to welcoming greater numbers to the destination than ever before. We are delighted to take part in this initiative and I hope it helps to connect future Chinese visitors with the area.”
Cloonavin’s red illumination will begin on Friday 2nd March and continue over the weekend to coincide with China’s Lantern Festival and the end of the Lunar New Year's festivities.
