DC Tours’ ‘Belfast Troubles City Centre Walking Tour’ has been ranked fourth in the UK on TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Awards for 2019 – the highest rated attraction outside London. Traveller’s Choice is the highest accolade TripAdvisor can bestow on an experience or attraction.

DC Tours’ tour ranked fourth on TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice Award

The 2 hour and 15 minute walking tour explains the history of the Troubles and the path to peace and reconciliation while visiting sites in Belfast city centre and Cathedral Quarter before finishing by the Beacon of Hope at the Waterfront.

The award has added to an already busy start to DC Tours’ summer season.  At the end of May they were Highly Commended at the Northern Ireland Tourism Awards in the ‘Authentic NI Experience of the Year’ category, while Paul Donnelly, their lead guide, is currently shortlisted for Wanderlust Magazine’s ‘World Guide Awards’, the first guide from Northern (or Southern) Ireland to ever make the list!

The list is compiled according to reviews, opinions and popularity on TripAdvisor.  Company Owner Mark Wylie said he was delighted to receive such recognition from the visitors themselves:

“Reviews mean the world to us, we love hearing how our tour has helps travellers to really connect with our city and past.  This award was totally unexpected and it’s fantastic to know that our tour really leaves a lasting memory with our guests.”

"Paul and I were both born in 1968 and lived through the Troubles. We grew up here and wanted to show visitors what that was like and show just how far Belfast has grown as a city.  We didn't want this tour to come from one perspective or another. The city centre was a neutral zone and we thought we had to tell the story of Belfast from the civilian point of view.”

"I think the fact that it's truthful and honest is what attracts people. It's an insight into the reality of what it was like to live here, but the optimism shines through. It's a complete journey from conflict to peace."

With over 900 excellent reviews on TripAdvisor the company is expecting another very busy season.

Tours leave from Belfast City Hall and cost £18. See for details.  Private group tours are also available.
