Northern Ireland partners recruited for this year’s event included representatives from Mid & East Antrim Council and Mid Ulster Council, who were showcasing related product and experiences from within their respective council areas, along with future developments; the Ulster Historical Foundation who provided genealogy advice to those looking to trace their family ancestry; and author and Ulster Scots Agency representative Billy Kennedy;
The Northern Ireland entourage were joined by Atlanta based tour company – The Shamrock and Peach – founded by Co. Armagh couple Gary and Judith McLoughlin, who specialise in Irish Food and Culture tours and travel experiences; and Mike Hawe, from Virginia based Isle Inn Tours.
Attracting almost 30,000 visitors of Scots-Irish and Scots descent during the two-day outdoor festival, the games are an ideal opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland not just as a wonderful holiday destination, but the strong connections Northern Ireland has with North America with particular focus on the Ulster Scots story.
Prior to the festival, the Northern Ireland group participated in a networking lunch involving influential journalists, travel trade and airline contacts from the Atlanta area, where they profiled what Northern Ireland has to offer American holidaymakers.
This was followed by a workshop, facilitated by Tourism NI, where the visiting Northern Ireland partners, presented their offerings and experience to an audience of 60 delegates keen to find out more about their ancestry and connections with Northern Ireland.
