ROI Update October 2019

Members of the winning team of the 10th edition of the Writers Cup at the Lough Erne Resort

Our ROI PR team worked with the Irish Mail on Sunday to develop an 8-page Taste the Island supplement that appeared in the newspaper on 08 September, featuring food and drink experiences from across Northern Ireland. The supplement included several features written by journalists who had undertaken trips organised by TNI to top food and drink locations and experiences. It also highlighted some of Northern Ireland’s less well known ‘hidden gems’ food and drink experiences.

RTE Nationwide featured a programme on Derry~Londonderry on 25 September, focusing on the 400th anniversary of the city’s walls. The ROI PR team organised for the RTE crew to spend a number of days in the city in August to film local tourist attractions and businesses.

Tourism NI organised a stand at the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs’ tent at the National Ploughing Championships in Carlow, in mid-September. Over 240,000 people attended the championship so it offered a great opportunity to make the ROI public aware of NI tourist destinations.

The TNI Belfast and Dublin PR teams jointly organised the special 10th edition of the ‘Writer Cup’ – a golfing competition that brings together journalists from the North and South who compete for the prestigious Writer Cup trophy. To mark this special year, the tournament returned to Lough Erne Resort in Fermanagh on 24-25 September – the location for the first ever event – where the journalists enjoyed the resort’s spectacular Faldo Course and great hospitality. Good media coverage has already been received.

TNI’s Fiona Cunningham supported the launch of the 30th Anniversary Cinemagic Festival in Belfast in early October. The festival offers film and television opportunities for young audiences. Cinemagic patron Saoirse Ronan opened one of the first events on the programme, hosting a Q&A for students following a special screening of Lady Bird.
