Tourism NI launches 2019/2020 Tourism Events Funding Programme
Published October 30, 2018
Tourism NI has launched two separate funding schemes as part of its 2019/2020 Tourism Events Funding Programme.
Aine Kearney, Director of Business Supports & Events and Mary McFerran, Events Team
The programme consists of the International Tourism Events Fund and the National Tourism Events Sponsorship Scheme which were introduced to boost the attractiveness of Northern Ireland as a holiday destination to visitors and increase spend.
The launch comes at a time when the tourism industry in Northern Ireland continues to make a noticeable contribution to the economy. In 2017 visitors spent £2.5 million per day, making tourism a key driver of growth, and new statistics out last week show that the number of people employed in tourism now totals 65,000, or 8.7% of all jobs here.
Aine Kearney Tourism NI Director of Business Support and Events commented;
“Northern Ireland has a proven track record as the host of many world class events and last year Tourism NI supported 12 international events and sponsored 40 national events. This year we are building on the experience theme approach to events, aimed at creating and sustaining memorable breaks in Northern Ireland.“
“Events are crucial to enhancing our visitor experience, increasing visitor numbers and spend and helping to elongate the tourism season. We look forward to welcoming this year’s applications which we hope reflect the friendliness of our people, the vibrancy of our cities, the beauty of our landscapes and our rich culture and heritage.”
The international funding scheme now requires applicants to set up a meeting with a member of the Tourism NI events team before proceeding with an application. To do this you can contact the events team at firstname.lastname@example.org or 028 9044 1656. The international funding scheme is currently open and the deadline for submission is Monday 26 November.
The national funding scheme will include a series of workshops across Northern Ireland in November to guide applicants through the process. Each session will run for two hours and will include the opportunity for a one-to-one meeting with a member of the Tourism NI Events Team. To book a place visit www.tourismni.com/events.
Registration for the national sponsorship scheme will open on Monday 3 December.
