This training is designed to give your staff the knowledge and confidence to cater for disabled customers’ needs sensitively and effectively.

Purpose of course:

Disabled customers are a huge market in the UK - worth an estimated £80 billion per year. By giving your staff the confidence to make disabled customers feel

welcome, you’ll not only win their custom, but that of their family and friends
too. On completion of the training participants will be awarded the official
WorldHost® pin and certificate.

What the course covers:

  • Appropriate words and phrases to use with disabled customers
  • Tips to improve communication
  • Common disabilities and how to offer assistance to meet their service needs
  • Misconceptions and biases when serving customers who need support
  • Why disabled customers are such an important market
  • Identifying accessible local businesses

Please note:

It includes a certificate and stickers to show off in your business and a badge for you to display on your website.

Eligibility for Courses

Training courses are only available to Mid and East Antrim Borough based tourism and hospitality businesses. A maximum of 2 participants will be permitted from any one business, unless courses are under subscribed. Familiarisation trips will be extended to tour guides and visitor information centre staff outside the area. Places will be given on a first come first served basis. Once available spaces have been filled, applicants will be placed on a reserve list.

All courses have been subsidised by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. For chargeable courses, payment will be required in advance. This can be accepted in cash or by cheque made payable to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council.

Cancellation Policy

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council reserves the right to cancel courses at any time, if there are insufficient participant numbers. In the event of participant cancellation, less than one week before the start of a course or failure to attend a course, no refund will be given unless the cancelled place can be filled from a reserve list of businesses. Substitutions may be made from within.
