New RTE series showcases beauty of Armagh and Co Down
Viewers are being encouraged to tune into RTE 1 tonight to watch TV chef Catherine Fulvio undertake a “breathtaking” journey through Northern Ireland

In `Soulful Journey’, Catherine, who is also a well-known food writer, journeys along the North's famous Saint Patrick’s Way: The Pilgrim Walk.
The 132-kilometer trail took the owner of Ballyknocken House & Cookery School through Ireland’s spiritual capital, Armagh and onward, through the beautiful coastal landscape of Co Down.
Commissioned by Tourism Northern Ireland, the series sees Catherine journey through unspoilt natural scenery on an immersive exploration of history, spirituality and culture, experiencing world class local food and drink along the way.
From Armagh to Downpatrick, St Patrick’s final resting place, the programme offers a blend of the natural world, meaningful conversations and culinary delights which highlight the beauty and depth of the iconic route which opened 10 years ago.
Along the way, Catherine engages with locals, uncovers stories of the past, learns about innovative farming practices and explores the sacred and cultural significance of St Patrick – while collecting stamps on her Pilgrim Passport at key locations.
During episode one, which is due to air at 8pm tonight, Thursday, March 13, Catherine visits Armagh, Gosford Forest Park, learns about the Mourne Gullion Strangford area and enjoys forest bathing at Killeavy Castle Estate, which is set in the stunning Ring of Gullion.
In the second episode, which is due to air at 8pm tomorrow night, Friday, March 14, Catherine takes in Rostrevor, Spelga Dam and Tollymore Forest Park, all set in the dramatic backdrop of the Mourne Mountains. She also visits Newcastle, Tyrella beach, and Downpatrick before finishing her journey at Finnebrogue Woods.
Speaking about her journey, Catherine said: “During this two-part series I had the privilege of exploring the breathtaking scenery of Armagh and Down while delving into the rich history of St Patrick along the pilgrim way.
“Not surprisingly, I also got to indulge in some of the most delectable local cuisine while meeting interesting characters along the route who were able to show me some of the best of Northern Ireland.
“It was a truly memorable experience."
Fiona Cunningham, ROI Market Manager at Tourism Northern Ireland, said: “With her interest and experience in food and hospitality, Catherine Fulvio is the perfect candidate to partner with to explore and showcase this majestic part of Northern Ireland.
“Watch as she uncovers the rich and diverse range of great accommodation, restaurants, attractions and experiences on offer. This is the very reason why Northern Ireland continues to attract record numbers of visitors."
