Tourism Northern Ireland has been recognised by international accreditation body Investors in People during a celebration event in Belfast
The organisation recently visited five locations around the UK as part of its 'Community Celebration Tour’.
The tour events recognise organisations that have successfully gained an Investors in People (IiP) accreditation in the last year and highlights the work they do as leaders in their field.
During the events, businesses are presented with their IiP plaque, can listen to inspirational guest speakers from within the IiP community and get the chance to network with others who also #MakeWorkBetter
In May 2023, Tourism NI was awarded the gold accreditation from IiP for actively making its workplace better for its employees.
Awarding the accreditation, IiP found Tourism NI encourages “upward feedback”, provides “opportunities for discussion and engagement” and “efforts are made to get the best out of” its employees.
Furthermore, it found there is "a passion for delivering and striving to exceed” adding that Tourism NI’s approach “balances the needs of the individual, team, and organisation."
Louise Fitzsimons, Head of People & Organisational Development at Tourism NI, said: “Tourism NI champions careers in tourism and hospitality through its successful Make it Here campaign and works with employers to ensure positive workplaces in our sector.
“This is reflected also in our internal approach, striving to create a workplace where employees are empowered to deliver for tourism, and our gold accreditation from Investors in People is testament to that.”
The recognition of Tourism NI’s workplace success comes as Conor Murphy, Economy Minister for Northern Ireland, announced a consultation on 'Good Jobs’.
Mr Murphy recognised tourism as one of Northern Ireland’s most important economic sectors.
With 70% of jobs located outside of Belfast, the benefits of tourism are spread throughout the region.
Mr Murphy spoke of his intention to develop an action plan to enable the industry to continue to grow in a way that aligns with his economic vision of a productive, regionally balanced, net zero economy with good jobs.
